De briefing
Lichtinstallatie voor Bermondsey Street car park bij treinstation London Bridge. De locatie ligt tussen de Bermondsey Street Tunnel en de Thames rivier. De straat en de tunnel in het verlengde zijn ’s avonds fel verlicht maar het parkeerterrein oogt duister en onaangenaam.
De opgave: verander de sombere, donkere plek in een blikvanger. Gebruik de architectonische kenmerken van de plek.
De uitdaging
Afhankelijkheid van derde partijen voor een lichtprojectie.
Het eindresultaat
Kinetische lichtinstallatie. De steunpilaren van de bovengelegen spoorlijn worden in wisselend gekleurd strijklicht gezet. Oranje en rode tinten vervangen de blauwe ter verbeelding van de reis naar de tunnel, de subtiele beweging imiteert de treinbeweging. Het blauwe licht refereert aan het water van de Theems, het oranje aan het industriële verleden van Bermondsey. Een muurprojectie verbeeldt het licht aan het eind van de tunnel.

The briefing
Lighting installation for Bermondsey Street car park near London Bridge Station. The location is situated in between Bermondsey Street Tunnel and the river Thames. Both the street and the tunnel it leads to are brightly lit at night but the car park looks dark and unpleasant.
The assignment: turn the gloomy, dark area into an eye-catcher. Use the architectural features of the place.
The challenge
Dependency on third parties for the light projection.
The result
Kinetic lighting installation. The buttresses of the railway line above are uplit in alternating colours. Blue hues reflect the river beyond, the orange refers to Bermondsey’s industrial heritage. From Tooley street to Bermondsey Street, the installation changes to reflect the journey towards the tunnel on Bermondsey Street. A gentle kinetic effect echoes the train movement. Coming from the other direction, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel in a wall projection.
