De briefing
Het Foreestenhuis is een rijksmonument aan de Grote Oost in Hoorn. De patriciërswoning heeft een monumentale natuurstenen gevel uit 1724, bekroond door een lijst met beelden van Venus, Diana, Athene en Mars.
De opgave: benadruk de architectonische waarde van het gebouw met licht op een wijze die past in de omgeving.
De uitdaging
Het kader voor het lichtontwerp was strikt: conformiteit aan de Nota Aanlichten Hoorn, geen montage aan de gevel en geen mastarmaturen in de openbare ruimte.
Het eindresultaat
Het karakteristieke beeld van de Louis XIV façade wordt versterkt door de monumentale elementen van de gevel met licht te accentueren. De verlichting wordt gemonteerd op de daken van tegenoverliggende panden en achter de plint van de stoephekken.
De lichtsterkte is aangepast aan het karakter van de omgeving. Omdat dit donker en stil is, is de intensiteit van de verlichting laag. Voor rust en eenheid wordt enkel wit licht gebruikt: vlakstralers met neutraal wit licht (4000K) voor de gevel zelf, spots met smalle of elliptische bundels warm licht (3000K) voor de ornamentiek. De kleur van opbouw-armaturen is afgestemd op de gevel waaraan ze worden bevestigd. Uit duurzaamheidsoogpunt zijn energiezuinige led lampen voorgesteld. Het maximale verbruik van de installatie is 154W.
Het lichtontwerp toonde aan dat de gevel zacht en aantrekkelijk verlicht kon worden binnen deze beperkingen. Helaas zorgde de Corona epidemie ervoor dat het project financieel niet meer uitkwam en niet kon worden gerealiseerd.

The briefing
The Foreestenhuis is a listed building in the city of Hoorn. The manor house has a monumental stone facade from 1724 and a cornice with statues of Venus, Diana, Athene and Mars.
The assignment: Emphasize the architectural value of the building through lighting in a way that complements its surroundings.
The challenge
The framework for the lighting design was strict: conformity to the municipal lighting regulations, no mounting on the façade and no pole top luminaires in the public space.
The result
The characteristic image of the Louis XIV façade is enhanced by accentuating its monumental elements with light. Lighting fixtures will be situated on rooftops of opposite buildings and behind the plinth of the fences of the building itself.
The brightness of the lighting installation is adapted to the character of the environment. Because this is dark and quiet, the lighting intensity is low. For tranquility and unity, only white light is used: surface-mounted luminaires with neutral white light (4000K) for the façade itself, spotlights with narrow or elliptical beams of warm light (3000K) for ornamentation. The colour of surface-mounted luminaires matches the façade to which they are attached. From a sustainability point of view, only energy-efficient LED lamps have been proposed. The maximum consumption of the installation is 154W.
The lighting design shows that the façade could be gently and attractively illuminated within these constraints. Unfortunately, as a result of the Corona outbreak, the project was no longer financially viable and could not be carried out.
